M.U.B.S. hosts conference on the issue of not allowing Lebanese mothers to transport their children abroad

On the occasion of Women's International Day, MUBS hosted a conference in collaboration with the Association of the Union of Progressive Women's , in the presence of judge Sheikh Yahya Rafii, vice president of the Progressive Socialist Party, lawyer Duraid Yaghi, Dr. Paul Murcus, President of the Progressive Women's Union and Mrs. Wafa' Abed, representative of the Lebanese Women's Council, and a number of women's organizations and civil society.

Dr. Paul Murcos presented a wonderful, well-received, and much-needed legal study was on the erroneous interpretation of the religious beliefs in both Islam and Christianity, that the husband is the owner of exclusive jurisdiction to the minors. This interpretation contravenes the civil law as well as the Lebanese constitution and International Law in enforcing the principle of Equality, he said.

The solution, Dr. Murcos presented, is to issue administrative instructions to comply with the provisions of the Constitution so as to ensure equality.
