The second graduation ceremony for the employees of the Ciment de Sibline participating in the English Language Training Program was held at the Al Jisr restaurant in Damour. The event was attended by MUBS representatives Mrs. Hikmat Daou (Public Relations Director and coordinator of the program), Mrs. Reem Bouzeineddine (English language instructor), and Ciment de Sibline Representatives Mr. Vassillis Mavridis (CdS Plant Manager), Mr. Vitor Armada (CdS CFO), Mr. Bassam Hammad (CdS Personnel Head), Mr. Haitham Shaarawy (CdS HR Manager), and Mrs. Hiba Saleh (CdS HR Assistant).
The English Language Training Program has been running for the last three years at the plant. The objective of the program is to teach and upgrade employees’ English language knowledge and communication skills. Chosen participants are required to take a placement test at the beginning of their enrollment to determine the appropriate program’s level. Each program level covers 33 hours of instruction during which participants learn about English language grammar, and practice verbal communication, and technical writing using the latest methods.
The program was developed after a comprehensive analysis of the needs of the organization and its workforce and received the organization stamp of approval. It aims to increase the use of the English language at the workplace and develop cross-cultural awareness in a variety of business settings and contexts such as participation and discussions in business meetings, negotiations, writing and comprehending business correspondence, writing reports, reading and listening to business news and articles, interviewing skills and a variety of business related activities.
Additionally, the courses focuses on developing speaking and writing skills through cooperative task-oriented activities carried out in groups or individually. Participants can engage in preparing and giving short presentations and practice active listening skills using simple but effective English expressions and terminology.
The program concluded its second year with more than 50 employees completing it. Participants were highly motivated, enjoying the opportunity presented to them by the company to advance their skills and career development.
The Continuing Education Division (CED) at MUBS, the administrator of this program, offers number of courses in different field of studies designed for employees, business manager/owner and educational organization. After the completion of a given course/program, enrolled student receive MUBS certificate which is certified by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.
MUBS-CED programs and courses can be customized to fit the requirement of organizations and their workforce. Over the past few years MUBS-CED delivered many courses in-house and at the premises of many public and private organizations in the Greater Beirut Area.
