The Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS) in collaboration with the United Nations Information Centre in Beirut- UNIC, hosted the 3rd Annual Young Entrepreneur Contest on the 20th of March at the UNESCO Palace, Beirut.
Dr. Hatem Alamy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at MUBS, Ms. Marguerite El Helou, Acting Director at United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Mr. Wissam Breidy, TV Host & Entrepreneur, Mrs. May El Khalil, Founder and President of the Beirut Marathon Association, schools’ representatives, members of the Board of Trustees, faculty, and staff at MUBS attended the event.
The Young Entrepreneur Contest was launched based on the strong links established between MUBS and Staffordshire University in the UK and as part of the ASPIRE Tempus Project. The contest targeted high school students in order to encourage them to create business ideas that would enable them to be entrepreneurial in their future careers. More than 30 projects were submitted from different schools, but only ten groups were selected for the final round.
Each of the ten groups presented their ideas in front of the jury that included: Dr. Fadi Yarak, Director General of Education, Dr. Saad Andary, Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Dr. Nicolas Rouhana, Executive Director at Berytech, Dr. Khater Abou Habib, Chairman & General Manager of Kafalat, Ms. Marguerite El Helou, Acting Director, UNIC, Mrs. Fayza Saad Mehanna, Executive Director at Injaz Lebanon, and Mrs. Wafa Saab, CEO at Tinol Paints.
The top three ideas chosen by the jury were as follows:
1st Place: “Blind Smart Reader” by Mokhtar Itani from Grand International School.
2nd Place: “Eco-Friendly” by Hassan Chaaban from Lycée Adonis.
3rd Place: “Advanced Automatic Eraser” by Jawad Shaar, Rawan Yehya, Roni Aridi from Cedars Cultural School
