MUBS Participates in “The Middle East Forum for Opinion Leaders in Education”

By MUBS Communications Dept., 18 Jan, 2022.

The ramifications that Covid-19 had on our daily lives have been prominent. The fields of health, entertainment, communications, agriculture, business, and so many more have been influenced by the pandemic, and education is no exception.

For educators, the pandemic has resulted in great disruption in educational practices and activities which has been raising several concerns. The learning of a full generation of students has been interrupted due to school and university closure. That is why educational institutions must respond creatively to learning issues in order to ensure a sound future for the education of their students.

With this in mind, the Association of Arab Universities (AARU), in collaboration with the Conferences and Exhibitions Gulf Center in London, held a Middle East forum for opinion leaders in higher education which took place remotely from 25 to 27 October 2021 via a virtual conference.

The AARU is a non-governmental organization working within the framework of the Arab League and based in Amman, Jordan. Its membership includes 280 Arab Universities at the present time and its objective is to support and connect universities in the Arab world, enhancing cooperation among them.

Dr. Nael Alami, Provost, Modern University for Business and Science (MUBS), Lebanon, participated in the conference and stressed the importance of enriching dialogue and advancing education, particularly in this period of time that is witnessing major challenges a the level of the Arab world and the world at large.

The forum’s objective was to enable leaders in education, including ministers, presidents, and directors of educational institutions in the Arab world, to introduce their views on the present and future of education, whether that be on the regional or global level. Leaders were also invited to discuss the challenges brought by Covid-19 and the creative initiatives and practices their institutions have undertaken in order to sustain the quality of their education. The attendees studied how to use their resources and build on their initiatives in order to develop more flexible and efficient educational systems, reaching the highest levels of global competitiveness in the field of education, learning, and technology.

There is no doubt that the development of Covid-19 will be perceived as a historical moment, one that would be seen as a misfortune that has impaired our society or as a huge opportunity that has led to the creation of innovative solutions and projects. Thus, the way educational institutions utilize their resources will be the determining factor in ensuring the future of their students. MUBS remains dedicated to its mission of promoting culture and awareness, empowering students and educators, and employing effective technology in response to the challenges of remote learning.

Attending this conference reaffirms the university's commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically SDG4 (Quality education) and SDG17 (Partnerships for the goals).
