The Optometry and Vision Science Department at MUBS, in collaboration with the Syndicate of Opticians and Optometrists in Lebanon, Dialeb, and Medicals International, organized a seminar and workshop on Low Vision on Monday, September 5, 2022, on the Jal El Dib campus.

The event began with a Low Vision workshop, in which Mr. Bilal Kanso and Ms. Farah Malaeb from Medicals International displayed the most recent technologies in the field and explained their use and importance to students. Mrs. Farah Hashem also assessed students on the Low Vision course information. Mrs. Nisrine Ashkar, Syndicate President and Head of the Optometry Department, and Dr. Shafika Assaad, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, both spoke at the event, which was moderated by Ms. Laura Ajab, Operations Manager and Executive Assistant of the Optometry Department. Both introduced the School of Health Sciences at MUBS and emphasized the importance of raising awareness about Low Vision. Honored guests included Mr. Antoine Jabare, Mayor of Jdeide, his Excellency Consul Gaby Abou Rjeily, Dr. Arkan Maarouf, and Dr. Caroline Maarouf.

Dr. Jackie Maalouf, Founder, and President of DiaLeb gave the first presentation, in which she discussed diabetes and its risks, which can lead to a variety of complications, particularly those affecting the eyes. Following that, Mr. Sleiman Al Banna, Head of Specialty Line Low Vision at Medicals International in Saudi Arabia, discussed the Low Vision condition and the visual aids used for treatment in each case, as well as their specifications. Certificates of attendance were distributed to students at the end of the workshop in the presence of Dr. Nina Zeidan, Advisor to the Board of Trustees, and Dr. Marwan Atallah, Ophthalmologist, which was followed by a coffee break and socializing among attendees. Finally, a group photo was taken of all of the students, eye care professionals, and municipal figures. Consequently, the event allowed the audience to learn about "Low Vision" and for students to present and discuss their knowledge and experiences with the topic.
