On the occasion of “World Diabetes Day”, the School of Health Sciences (SHS) organized its first seminar for this academic year on Diabetes Community Awareness at the Aley Campus on the 19th of November. The talk was presented by Mrs. Laura Hjeij, Acting Chair of the Nutrition Department. Mrs. Hjeij opened her talk by defining diabetes and types of diabetes. She highlighted the causes of diabetes, symptoms, and the various ways of prevention. Mrs. Hjeij also stressed the importance of awareness in preventing diabetes.
Afterwards the inauguration of the Healthy Club took place in the presence of faculty, staff, members, and students. Members of the Healthy Club offered health services such as blood glucose and blood pressure measurements, waist circumference, BMI, and healthy tips. They distributed healthy food and drinks to the students on campus creating a very nice atmosphere.
