NWN Seminar Raises Awareness on the Impact of Menopause on Mental Health

Menopause is a natural biological process, however,  the physical and emotional symptoms may disrupt a woman’s life. A study by Joyce T. Bromberger, shows that  risk of high depressive symptoms and disorder is greater during and after the menopausal transition. Other studies  show that nearly 60% of women suffer from more than one symptom of menopause and nearly 25% of these women claim that it affects their lives in a way they must seek medical assistance  such as therapy or medication.

On the occasion of the International Women's Day, MUBS Aley in collaboration with NWN and Dorcas Thabina, a local NGO,  held an event to raise awareness on menopause on March 8, 2019. The event tackled the physiological and psychological effects of menopause on women. Dr. Tharwat Monzer, psychoanalyst & psychotherapist, who addressed the psychological aspect of menopause on women’s mental health. The session was followed by Dr.Badri Al-Awar, gynecologist, who discussed the physiological and hormonal changes that occur during this period. The event came to a close with a talk by meditation specialist,Majed BouHamdan who highlighted the positive impact of mediation for woman going  through menopause sufferers  Finally, Dorcas Thabina generously invited all attendees to a sumptuous brunch at the NWN center
