Turning Theory into Practice: Highland School Students Conducting Experiments at the School of Health Sciences Laboratories

By MUBS Communications Dept., 2000-2021.

On Friday November 23rd 2018, the School of Health Sciences at MUBS was pleased to host around 50 grade 7, 8, and 9 students from Highland School in its Damour laboratories. After a warm welcome from the Admissions team and distribution of MUBS bags including MUBS flyers and souvenirs, they were taken on a small tour in the University venue showing them the different administrative and academic departments along with facilities.

The students were then greeted by the SHS faculty members who introduced them to the experiments conducted at the laboratories. The students enjoyed listening to Dr. Haitham el Ballouz and Ms. Ramona Nasr who dissected the rabbit and discussed the different organs and systems examined. Dr. Nisreen Alwan explained to them the different blood groups and how to know their blood types using the test available in the laboratory. The students then tested their blood groups under the supervision of Dr. Alwan.

Dr. Wissam Ghach demonstrated to them different acid-base and precipitation reactions as well as separation techniques using liquid separatory funnel and filtration.

The visit was very fruitful to them as it bridges the gap between the theoretical part they are taking in school and the practical part taken at MUBS laboratories making such lessons enjoyable and interesting to them.
