SHS was established in the year 2013 in response to the need for well-trained professionals in the health services sector in the Middle East. The need was identified and exposed in the World Health Organization Report (2006) “Working Together for Health”, which stressed the need to clarify and strengthen the role of healthcare professionals at the national level.
SHS aims to exemplify and build on the university’s vision of being a modern, innovative, and leading academic and research institute in Lebanon and the region. The foundations of SHS are three modern departments that reflect our core mission and dedication to civic responsibility, health and environmental awareness, and scientific research. The departments of Nutrition, Optometry & Vision Science, and Public Health will form the launch pad for a growing faculty that we hope will become a model for other scientific programs and research centers in the region.
The School provides its students with innovative, academic, and career-oriented experiences and opportunities for learning at the Aley, Damour, Semkaniyyeh, and Beirut campuses. The experience starts in the classroom, continues in our modern laboratories and is complete with real-world internships and collaborative projects. Training for the offered majors is available with practical experience in leading hospitals, various private clinics, and healthcare centers in Lebanon and the region.
SHS's success stems from the diligent and continuous efforts of its faculty and staff who are committed to building an institution renowned for its creative and engaging pedagogies, cutting edge research facilities, and exemplary community engagement.
