A New Arab European Network for Leadership

In line with its efforts towards internationalization, MUBS, represented by Dr. Hatem Alamy, the chairman of the Board of Trustees, participated in the launch of the Arab and European Leadership Network for Higher Education (ARELEN) in Amman, Jordan, on Monday, February 24th 2014, in collaboration with the Association of Arab Universities, Cardiff Metropolitan University, and the TEMPUS program. ARELEN aims to support universities, in their transformation process through the provision of a platform, which offers best leadership practice exchanges between universities in the Arab region.  The network will function as a bridge between the Arab region and Europe with the objective of increasing cooperation among universities in the two regions. ARELEN also aims to enhance the existing links and facilitate new links between leaders of higher education institutions within the region it covers.

The launch event was followed by a three-day workshop on Capacity Building for Internationalization, which was led by the Leadership Foundation UK. This provided an opportunity for the ARELEN members from the MENA region, to discuss the nature of globalization and the subsequent need and opportunities for the internationalization of Arab universities. The workshop explored the issues in greater depth, encouraged the sharing of experiences across countries, enabled participants to learn from successful practice in the Arab world and in the UK and was finalized with participants developing action plans.

Simultaneously, a Governance and Advisory Board (GAB) was created and selected from among participating institutions that actively reflect the aims ARELEN serves. The purpose of the board is to set the strategic directions of ARELEN and draft rules and regulations. The GAB is a high level committee, which will benefit from the expertise and knowledge of its members to identify current areas of importance in higher education and delegate Steering Committees to implement appropriate activities accordingly. MUBS was selected to be an active member of GAB.

M.U.B.S realizes the importance of ARELEN, which distinguishes leaders among academic institutions through increased efficiency of operations and the availability of new information that are up to date and in line the demand of today’s global structure. M.U.B.S. enriched its international dimensions by facilitating the exchange of people and ideas, and by forging international partnerships for transformative international opportunities. The university has become a leader in internationalization and innovation through its ongoing efforts to develop and improve its quality academic standing.
